From the Latin mantissa, "a trifling addition," in allusion to some of the smallest flowers known in the genus.

One of the smallest flowers in the genus. Closely related to Dracula felix with which it is sympatric in Ecuador. The flowers are very similar to those of D. felix, but those of D. mantissa are much smaller.
